How to repair a damaged recycle bin?




"Do you want to empty the recycle bin?"

Method 1: Pass CMD

Go to "Start"

Select "All Programs" and select "Attachments"

Right click on Command Prompt

Select "Run cmd as administrator"

Type "rd /s /q C:\$Recycle.bin" and press "Enter"

Note: Repeat the last step, replacing "C" with the rest of the drive/partition letters and restarting the computer.


If the above method does not fix the corrupted recycle bin, use "sfc /scannow" instead of the "rd /s /q C:\$Recycle.bin" code in the command prompt.


Method 2. Reinstall the recycle bin

Open the Control Panel

Switch to File Explorer

Select the "View" tab

Uncheck "System Protected Operation File"

Open each drive/partition

You will see "bin" and "recycle.bin" (permissions)

Remove permissions for each drive

"restart" the computer

Right click on "Desktop"

Select the "Personalization" option

Click on "Theme"

Select the "Desktop" icon setting from "Related Settings"

Check the box "Recycle Bin"

Click the "Apply" button and then click "OK"


The Recycle Bin will now be reset and you can access the files in the Recycle Bin. However, some files from the recycle bin may be deleted during this process. Don't worry, use the Remo Recover software to retrieve all your files. It can even recover images from the "Recycle Bin" of other generic and media files. Take action before losing important data.
